Burgundy’s winegrowers’ festival moves to a different village every year. In 2027 it comes to Volnay, the village next to Meursault: two days of open cellars, parades and flower-decked streets, 3 km from the cottage.

Three banquets precede the festival, on 22, 29 and 30 January. The weekend itself opens on the Saturday morning with the parade of the Saint-Vincent societies and the mass, and the cellars then serve until Sunday evening.
The festival
What is the Saint-Vincent Tournante?
Saint Vincent is the patron saint of winegrowers. Since 1938, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin has organised a festival every year, at the end of January, that ‘turns’ from village to village: each wine-growing commune in Burgundy hosts it in its turn, and gets the chance only a few times a century. Volnay, population 240, is welcoming it for the third time, after 1957 and 1986.
For months beforehand, the villagers make thousands of paper flowers to decorate the streets, the house fronts and the vines. On the Saturday morning, the Saint-Vincent societies from every village parade behind their banners and their statues of the saint, a mass is celebrated, and then the cellars open.
The idea is simple: you buy an engraved glass and a tasting booklet at the entrance, then make your way round the village from cellar to cellar, where the winegrowers pour their wines. Between tastings: brass bands, exhibitions, and tens of thousands of visitors over the two days.
Staying in Meursault
The village next door, in peace and quiet
Volnay is 3 km from the cottage, by the RD 974 or through the vines. The host village is closed to cars during the festival; staying just next door, in a village that is not celebrating, means coming back in the evening to a quiet house, a kitchen and free parking.
The cottage sleeps up to four, with a bedroom upstairs and a sofa bed in the living room. A single night is enough: the rate is the same all year round, with no surcharge for the event.
Beaune, its Hospices and its cellars are 8 km away: a good reason to stretch the weekend by a day.

Book without delay
Beds in the neighbouring villages go months in advance. There is only the one cottage: write to us as soon as your dates are certain.
Dress warmly
In late January, the festival takes place outdoors, in the streets and courtyards. Good shoes, gloves, and something waterproof.

Car parks, shuttle buses, parade times and the price of the tasting kit are announced by the organisers of each edition. Check the official website before you set off.
